A Real Life Polar Express

December 5, 2024 2 Min Read

On December 5, our Miss GSL Teen titleholders had the privilege of partnering with the Mascot Miracles Foundation for their annual Polar Express event at the Heber Valley Historic Railroad. This heartwarming experience brought joy to children battling serious or terminal illnesses and their families, offering them a magical escape during the holiday season. From cheerful mascots to personalized Build-A-Bear gifts, the evening was filled with laughter, connection, and unforgettable moments of love and support.

The Mascot Miracles Foundation, based in West Jordan, Utah, was founded in 2013 with a mission to create joyful experiences for children with life-threatening conditions. The foundation uses professional and college mascots to host events that allow families to momentarily forget their daily challenges. At the Polar Express, children, affectionately called “Heroes,” enjoyed a 90-minute journey complete with hot cocoa, cookies, and festive cheer. The mascots brought the magic of Santa’s Workshop to life, creating an atmosphere of pure delight for everyone on board.

Families reflecting on the experience, this was more than just a holiday outing—it was a rare opportunity to step outside their daily struggles and share in something truly special. One mother noted, whose daughter participated for the first time, expressed her gratitude: “They’re so supportive. It’s just extra special when you come and they throw presents, love, and support. It’s amazing.” Moments like these underscore the foundation’s ability to create lasting memories and a sense of community for families facing unimaginable challenges.

For our titleholders, this experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of service and connection. Participating in events like the Polar Express helps them develop empathy, compassion, and the confidence to engage meaningfully with people from all walks of life. By joining the Mascot Miracles Foundation in their mission, our titleholders not only gave back to the community but also witnessed firsthand how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others.

At Miss GSL Teen, we believe in empowering young women to serve their communities and grow into compassionate leaders. The Polar Express event was a perfect opportunity for our titleholders to live out these values, and we are honored to support organizations like Mascot Miracles Foundation. Together, we can continue to create magical moments that bring joy, connection, and hope to families who need it most this holiday season.
